SOFT TISSUE

Mobilization

Fascia 101: Fascia is connective tissue that surrounds and supports your muscles, bones (and organs). Your fascial network connects all your muscles, tendons, ligaments, and bones together. When your fascia becomes rigid—from overuse, injury, inactivity, stress, and other conditions—you may experience tightness and restricted motion.

Here’s where our soft tissue mobilization can:

Reduce Muscle Tension and Tightness: Unlike a traditional deep tissue massage, we work through different layers of your connective tissue to relax and mobilize restricted muscles. This offers immediate tension relief, more flexibility, and better range of motion.

Relieve Pain: We’ll work through tissue restrictions and adhesions so your muscles return to their normal relaxed state, decreasing your pain and discomfort.

Improve Circulation: Our mobilization technique increases blood flow to your injured or painful areas to promote healing, reduce inflammation, and enhance overall tissue health.

Reduce Scar Tissue: We’ll break down adhesions and scar tissues to increase blood flow, promote healing, and improve your flexibility.

PREGNANCY MASSAGE

Our approach to pre- and post-pregnancy massage offers a safe and natural way to support your well-being through this amazing, but often challenging, time.

Pre-Pregnancy: You may experience a variety of discomforts throughout your pregnancy. Massage therapy can ease aches and pains, promote better sleep, and reduce stress and anxiety—all essential for a calmer and healthier pregnancy journey.

Post-Pregnancy: Your body is working hard to heal. Massage therapy can help the process and reduce swelling, improve circulation, and promote muscle relaxation. (It may even be a mood booster.)

FAQ's

What Does a Massage Therapist Do?

Massage therapists are healthcare professionals who use various techniques to manipulate your soft tissues and joints with the goal of improving your overall well-being. Massage therapists’ goal is to promote muscle relaxation, relieve muscle tension, manage and reduce painful trigger points, and improve blood circulation to promote healing.

What Does Massage Therapy Treat?

Massage therapy treats a variety of conditions including muscle tension and pain, stress and anxiety, headaches, and sports injuries. Massage therapy may also be used to treat conditions like insomnia, arthritis, and digestive disorders, among others.

What Is the Difference Between a Massage and Massage Therapy?

These are often used interchangeably but there is a difference.

Massage is the general bodywork practice that focuses on improving your overall well-being. Pressure may be lighter. You typically get a massage in a spa-like setting with someone who has adequate massage training but may not be well-versed in anatomy, physiology and biomechanics.

Massage therapy is more involved and often has a therapeutic goal in mind. Therapists are typically more knowledgeable in anatomy and physiology, and treatment plans are more customized for conditions like pain management and injury rehabilitation.

How Long Should You Wait Between Massages?

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer to this question because it depends on several factors including the type of massage (like deep tissue or Swedish massage), what your body needs (like pain management or injury rehab), and your activity level.

A general guideline may look like:

  • Weekly if you’re an athlete or someone dealing with chronic pain conditions.
  • Bi-weekly if you’re seeking relaxation and muscle maintenance.
  • Monthly for someone seeking general well-being and stress relief.

Your clinical staff at RESPORT will assess your individual needs and appropriately recommend a suitable frequency for you.

Can You Get Too Many Massages?

It’s the old cliche that rings true: too much of anything can be bad for you. While there aren’t a lot of downsides regarding massages, you do want your body to recover on its own. The type of massage you get matters and frequent deep tissue massages can lead to additional soreness and inflammation. Frequent massages, regardless of pressure, can also overstimulate your nervous system and make it hard to naturally relax.

You should always listen to your body and don’t be afraid to ask your massage therapist for their expert recommendation.

How Long Do the Effects of a Massage Last?

The duration of a massage’s effects depends on the person but you’ll generally experience some benefits for at least 24 hours after a massage (with some people feeling the positive effects for a week or even longer).

Does Insurance Cover Massage Therapy With You?

Insurance coverage for Massage Therapy is dependent on your individual insurance policy and only certain insurances will cover it.

We believe in a holistic approach to wellness. Add massage therapy into your chiropractic or physical therapy care and rediscover a path to complete well-being.
